The Care Ritual

Fine jewelry doesn't need babying. It needs rhythm. Learn the temperament of your metal, give it sixty honest seconds now and then, and it will outlast the moment you bought it for.

Start Here

Three habits do ninety percent of the work

Forget the long lists. Master these three and everything else is just fine-tuning.

1

Last on, first off

Jewelry goes on after perfume, lotion, makeup and hairspray — and comes off before the shower, the pool, the gym, the garden and bed. It's the single habit that prevents most damage.

2

The sixty-second rinse

Once a week, soak the piece in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap. Sweep a soft brush behind the stone, rinse, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Sparkle, restored.

3

Rest it right

Store each piece dry, dark and separate — its own pouch or slot, so nothing scratches anything. Diamonds are hard enough to scar every other treasure in the box.

Know Your Metal

Every metal has a temperament

Care makes more sense once you know why. Here's what your metal is really like to live with — and the one thing it asks of you.

The Sociable One

Sterling Silver

925 · 92.5% pure

Bright, affordable and full of life — but it likes company. Left alone in a drawer, silver dulls and darkens.

That darkening isn't damage or poor quality — it's tarnish, a natural reaction between silver and sulfur in the air. It wipes right off, and wearing your silver often actually keeps it brighter.

Give it

A soft polishing cloth, an airtight pouch with an anti-tarnish strip, and regular wear.

The Workhorse

10KT Gold

41.7% pure gold

The toughest gold we set. More alloy means more armour — it shrugs off daily knocks better than its purer cousins.

All that strength comes from base metals, so 10KT is the most scratch-resistant and affordable gold — but also the most likely to react with very sensitive skin.

Give it

Everyday confidence, a warm soapy wash, and a soft cloth after wear.

The Everyday Classic

14KT Gold

58.3% pure gold

The sweet spot, and the reason it's the most-loved choice worldwide. Rich enough to glow, hard enough to live in.

14KT balances durability and warmth beautifully — resistant to tarnish, comfortable for daily wear, forgiving of a busy life.

Give it

A weekly warm-water soak and an occasional professional polish.

The Rich One

18KT Gold

75% pure gold

The deepest, warmest gold colour there is — and a little more precious about how it's treated.

Here's the myth worth breaking: higher karat isn't tougher. More pure gold means 18KT is softer and marks more easily — but also purer, kinder to skin, and more resistant to tarnish.

Give it

A gentler touch, a padded solo home, and periodic polishing to lift fine scratches.

The Heirloom

Platinum

950 · 95% pure

Dense, naturally white and utterly loyal. It never tarnishes, never yellows, and holds a diamond more securely than any gold.

When platinum scratches, the metal is pushed aside, not lost. Over years it earns a soft satin glow called a patina — a mark of a life well worn. Keep it, or have it polished back to a mirror. Either is right.

Give it

A simple soapy soak, and a re-polish only when you crave the high shine again.

Good To Know

A word on White Gold

White gold is yellow gold turned white with alloys, then finished with a bright rhodium plating — the mirror-white you fell for.

That plating gradually wears with everyday life, and a warmer tone may whisper through. This is normal. A quick re-rhodium every 12–24 months brings the bright white right back — part of what our lifetime care covers.

Give it

A refresh when the white looks tired, and gentle handling of the finish.

Your Diamonds

The secret every jeweler knows

A dull diamond is almost never a damaged diamond. It's a dirty one.

Diamonds quietly attract oil. Skin, lotion, sunscreen and cosmetics leave an invisible film across the surface that blocks light from entering — so the stone stops throwing fire long before anything is actually wrong. A minute in warm soapy water lifts the film and the brilliance floods back. Nothing was ever lost.

Lab-grown means identical care

Your IGI-certified lab-grown diamond is a real diamond — a perfect 10 on the hardness scale, the hardest material on earth. It asks for exactly the same care as a mined stone: no more, no less.

Hard, but not invincible

Hardness resists scratches; it doesn't prevent chips. A sharp blow on an exposed edge can still nick even a diamond, so avoid knocking it against hard surfaces and stone countertops.

The real pool risk

Chlorine won't touch the diamond — but it slowly corrodes the gold alloy and solder holding it in place. Weakened prongs are how stones are lost, so take rings off before the pool or spa.

Skip the toothpaste

An old kitchen myth. Toothpaste is abrasive enough to scratch gold and dull the metal around your stone. Warm water and a drop of mild dish soap is all a diamond ever needs.

Keep Your Distance

The short list of things to avoid

None of these will ruin a piece instantly — but over years, they add up. Give your jewelry a break from them.

Chlorine — pools & hot tubs Bleach & household cleaners Saltwater & the beach Perfume, hairspray & lotion Sudden knocks on hard surfaces Sleeping & showering in it Gym chalk, weights & sweat Gardening & grit A crowded box — pieces touching

The Rhythm

A simple calendar of care

Care isn't a chore when it has a rhythm. Here's the one we'd keep.

After each wear

A quick wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth to lift the day's oils and dust before you rest it.

Every week

The sixty-second warm soapy soak and rinse for anything with a diamond. This is what keeps it alive.

Every month

A pass with a silver polishing cloth for sterling pieces, and a look over your settings for anything loose.

Twice a year

Send it home to us. We'll deep-clean, check every prong, and re-plate white gold — free, for life.

Lifetime Warranty

Bring it home to Caratiyo

If a stone ever feels loose, a band thins, or the shine fades, don't wait. Every Caratiyo piece is backed by a lifetime warranty — a professional clean, a prong check and a fresh finish are always just a message away.
